I have named my blog Song(s) To The Siren for a couple of reasons. First, it is probably my favorite song. After listening to Tim Buckley’s evolution from mop-haired folkie to jazz-inflected singer/songwriter, nothing prepared me for the wild music unleashed on Star Sailor. Utilizing the horn section from the Mothers, Buckley keened and wailed across multiple octaves. While several of my friends loved this from the outset it took the phase-shifted guitar and voice-only Song To The Siren to create an opening that would let me into this wonderful music. This album is still one of my favorites 35 years on.
Also, while music has never lured me to the rocks, it has been a lifelong compulsion that has informed nearly every aspect of who I am. My kids have asked me to set this up as a way to share with them and their friends some of the music and artists I love.
Disclaimer: I am by no means any kind of critic. I come at this from the vantage point of a fan only. One who has been obsessively collecting music for more than 40 years.
